Miles & Miles

It's been several days since my first century ride. I feel like I'm fully recovered. So much so that I keep looking at an ad for another century ride which is now displayed on my refrigerator for September. Geez, I guess you can say I'm hooked. I love riding. I can't think of one thing I don't like about it.

One of the things I'm most excited about since the ride is the fact that I lost 2.5 lbs. that day and I've kept it off. That is making me a very happy person.

These next couple of days are busy with morning rides. One is to help generate awareness of cyclists using that as a means of transportation and how cyclists & cars can share the road.

Personally, I think everyone should ride their bike to work or to run errands at least once - I bet we'd have a whole lot more courteous drivers out there. I know I drive different now that I've been a cyclist.

Saturday, I'm doing a ride for an event in downtown Winter Garden. This little town is thriving partly due to the fact that the West Orange Trail runs right through it. There are 2 bike shops there as well. The Winter Garden Wheel Works Bike Fest

Winter Garden BIKE Fest

this weekend, is completely free with lots of music and fun afterward. Then Sunday is what I call exercise day. The Eastside Expedition is a 40 mile ride that usually has everyone riding as fast and as hard as they can, trying to better their previous speed. It's a Florida Freewheelers ride.

When Sunday's ride is over I will have ridden 250 miles in one 7-day time period. That is a record for me.

Keeping busy will be a great thing for me this weekend. Tomorrow morning my father is going in for surgery. I will be traveling up there mid-next week to help in any way I can after he gets out of the hospital. It's such a shame that they live so far away during a time like this, it really makes you think about how important it is to have family close by.

Our Spring Break is almost over BUT we have started to finalize plans for our family vacation this summer. That is super exciting. Last year we went to NYC for a week and had an incredible time. This year, a cruise, which I'm thrilled about considering I have never been to the Caribbean before. Grew up in the Keys but never got any further south than that. I'm seeing bathing suit shopping in my future. And perhaps some new sandals. :-) The last cruise ship I was on I was working in a show on it and I jumped ship - didn't like that life at all. Best decision I ever made. It was kind of crazy but really fun at the same time.

And now tonight --- taking my daughter to see the midnight premier of  The Hunger Games. I'm sure the movie will be awesome. I really enjoyed the book. My daughter gave it to me for Christmas with the instructions that I had to finish it by March 23 so we could go see the movie together. :-) Judging from what I've heard, I better read the next two because I'm sure they will be made into movies too.

I originally thought I was going to write a lot more about my century ride and perhaps I will but there is so many other things to talk about too. I think it's fair to say that it's been a great last week or so since I last posted. Certainly can't complain.
